Copper is known as the fourth precious metal, not due to its rarity but due to its usefulness to societies over the ages. Copper was most likely the first metal discovered and used by the early peoples, followed by the creation of bronze and brass.  
Antique copperware has since become a popular item for collectors and antique enthusiasts.

Bronze, is a mixture of copper and tin and is often thought of as an expensive metal. In reality, bronze is less expensive than copper. It gets this reputation from the time consuming and expensive process of creating beautiful pieces of art or sculptures, its main use nowadays. Brass is a mixture of copper and zinc and has been used widely by modern societies.
Antique copperware is now primarily used for decoration and as a collectible item.
